Calcutta: Jharkhand began their Vijay Hazare Trophy zonal leg campaign in style beating Tripura by 34 runs, at the JU Salt Lake Campus ground, here, on Saturday.

Jharkhand rode Ishank Jaggi’s 84 (102b, 10x4) to post 232 in 48.3 overs before pacer Jaskaran Singh, Subrato Ghosh and captain Shahbaz Nadeem picked up three wickets apiece to fold Tripura up for 198, with 10 balls to spare.

Tripura failed once again with the bat after the capitulation against Assam on Thursday.

At one stage, it appeared as if they might fall short of the three-figure mark when reduced to 52 for five by the 15th over.

However, with captain Ajay Ratra (40) and Manisankar Murasingh (30) putting up some resistance, Tripura at least managed to ensure Jharkhand didn’t romp home with a bonus point.

Brief scores

Jharkhand 232 in 48. 3 ovs(I. Jaggi 84; M. Murasingh 4/60). Tripura 198 in 48.2 ovs(S. Nadeem 3/32). Jharkhand won by 34 runs
