Grover is joint third

Paris: Sahaj Grover beat higher-ranked Krzysztof Jakubowski of Poland and then drew with Axel Bachmann of Paraguay to jump to joint third spot after the end of the fourth round of the 31st Cappelle-La-Grande International chess tournament on Tuesday. Abhijeet Gupta and Vidit Gujrathi were both held to draws in the third round by Swede Axel Smith and Estonian Meelis Kanep respectively, but won fourth rounds against Jose Rafael Sequera Paolini and compatriot Vishnu Prasanna respectively.

FA's Olympic wish

London: A combined British football team could take part in next year's Rio de Janeiro Olympics after the English Football Association signalled its intent to enter the qualification process. At London 2012 Britain fielded a unified soccer team managed by the FA, after a 52-year absence, although at the time it was seen as a one-off move to mark the home Games. The British Olympic Association (BOA) said on Tuesday that the FA had confirmed its desire to send a team to Brazil.

Terry contract

 London: Chelsea captain John Terry will be at the club next season, the Premier League leaders' manager Jose Mourinho said on Tuesday. 'I know what my board tells me and the player tells me and no doubt he is going to get his contract... All of these big guys are difficult to replace but you have to think what next and I think that is the best way to do things, ' Mourinho said.

Pique fined

Barcelona: Gerard Pique was fined 10,500 euros by a Spanish judge on Tuesday for abusing police after the car he was travelling in was given a parking ticket. Pique wrote an apology to the court hearing in Barcelona for the public order offence that took place on October 13, last year.

Wolff to vroom

Barcelona: Williams test driver Susie Wolff will take part in Friday practice sessions at this year's British and Spanish Grands Prix, the Formula One team said on Tuesday. The Scot will also have a day of testing at the Red Bull Ring following the Austrian GP.

Buzz over Bartoli

 Paris: Marion Bartoli sparked speculation on Tuesday of a return from retirement less than two years after bowing out of professional tennis. The 30-year-old who quit tennis in 2013 on the heels of a Wimbledon Grand Slam win, raised the question of a possible comeback on her Twitter page, instead of answering it.

'Coming back or not coming back to tennis? What do you think? Should I?' Bartoli tweeted.

BHA League

 Calcutta: Howrah Union blanked Entally AC 5-0, while Paikpara SC routed Kolkata Union Sporting Club 4-1, in BHA League matches on Tuesday. In another match, BSF South Bengal won 2-0 against Calcutta Parsee Club.
