Berlin: Top Indian shuttlers Kidambi Srikanth and Parupalli Kashyap crossed the opening hurdle to reach the second round of men’s singles competition at the German Grand Prix Gold. Srikanth saw off Japan’s Takuma Ueda 12-21, 21-18, 21-11, while Kashyap spanked Ukraine’s Artem Pochtarev 21-9, 21-9.

Kuala Lumpur: India’s women team cruised into the main draw of the World Table Tennis Team Championships after thrashing Croatia 3-0 in a second division group match on Wednesday. The men’s team beat Switzerland 3-0 in a late evening match on Tuesday.
Warriors lose
Mumbai: Puneri Paltan warmed themselves up for the difficult semi-final battle ahead by swamping Bengal Warriors 43-19 in their concluding round robin game of the Pro Kabaddi League at the NSCI Vallabhai Patel Stadium, here on Wednesday. Later, U Mumba rocketed to the top of the table by whipping Dabang Delhi 36-20.
I-League ties
Shillong/Mumbai: Bengaluru FC defeated Shillong Lajong 2-0 to consolidate their second position in the I-League, at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, in Shillong, on Wednesday. In another match, an own goal by Syed Rahim Nabi spoilt the show for Mumbai FC who led twice only to be held to a 2-2 draw by Aizawl FC at the Cooperage.

Nagpur: Maharashtra recorded their second straight victory when they defeated Indian Railways 3-0 in a league encounter of Santosh Trophy on Wednesday. In the other match of the day, defending champions Services got the better of Jammu and Kashmir 1-0.
IFA Shield
Calcutta: The under-19 team of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) defeated Crystal Palace U-19 6-5 in tie-breaker to reach the final of the IFA Shield, at the Mohun Bagan ground, on Wednesday. The teams were locked at 2-2 after the extra time.
Platini appeal
Lausanne: Michel Platini has made a formal appeal to the international sports tribunal against his six-year ban from football amid a call from a top European federation leader for him to resign as Uefa president.
Advani form
Colombo: Making his 10th appearance at the Asian Billiards Championship, ace cueist Pankaj Advani ended the day by winning both his matches 4-0. In his first match, Advani annihilated Mansoor Mohamed Mubeen, while later he defeated Anil Rohana.
