Indians excel

Sarawak: Top Indian shuttlers Saina Nehwal and Ajay Jayaram reached the quarter finals of the season-opening Malaysia Masters Grand Prix Gold. While Saina brushed aside Indonesia's Hanna Ramadini 21-17, 21-12, Jayaram beat Chinese Taipei's Hsueh Hsuan Yi 21-12, 15-21, 21-15.

New Delhi: India's outgoing Davis Cup captain Anand Amritraj Thursday said there were no denying the disciplinary issues concerning youngster Sumit Nagal and called on the AITA to take appropriate action. The 19-year-old Nagal had refuted the allegations against him.

Junior tennis

Calcutta: Top seeds in boys' singles draw entered the semi-finals of the ongoing DKS ITF Juniors at the DKS courts, here. Top seed Hua Chen Yu of Chinese Taipei crushed Rishabh Sharda 7-5, 6-2. Kazakhstan's Dostanbek Tashbulatov defeated Parikshit Somani 6-4, 6-0.

Battle of 'keepers

New Delhi: The Irani Cup match between Gujarat and the Rest of India team begins on Friday at the Brabourne Stadium. Spotlight will be on the 'keepers of the two teams - Parthiv Patel and Wriddhiman Saha - as they fight for a place in India's Test team.
