New Delhi: The action in the 11th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will start in Mumbai on April 7, though the opening ceremony will be held at the same venue a day earlier, according to IPL governing council chairman Rajeev Shukla.
"The opening ceremony is in Mumbai on April 6. The first match will be played on April 7 in Mumbai only. The names of the two competing teams in the opening match will be known only after the schedule is finalised.
"The final is at Mumbai on May 27," said the chairman of the IPL governing council.
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly did not attend the meeting.
In the meeting, which was held at a five star facility in the capital, it has also been decided to change the match timings.
From the very inception of the IPL, the starting time of the matches were mostly kept at 4pm and 8pm. However, this season the starting time could be changed to 5.30pm and 7pm.
Shukla said the change in timing was done after a request came from the broadcasters.
