Calcutta: India’s challenge in the singles of the National Insurance ITF Men’s Futures Meet ended on Thursday when both Jeevan Nenduchezhiyan and Sunil Kumar Sipaeya made exit in the quarter finals.
Jeevan, ranked 1026 in the world, was overpowered by third seeded Romanian Gabriel Moraru (346) 2-6, 1-6 while Sunil Kumar, ranked 733, went down to sixth seeded Enev Todor of Bulgaria, ranked 597, 3-6,1-6.
But the biggest upset in the quarter finals was the exit of second seed Alexei Kedriouk from Kazakhstan. The 301-ranked player was tamed 0-6, 2-6 by Artemon Apostu-Efremov of Romania.
Kyu-Tae-Im of Korea, who had beaten Karan Rastogi on Wednesday, continued his winning streak with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Simeon Ivanov of Bulgaria.
