Calcutta University emerged champions in both the men’s and women’s team event of the Cosco Inter-University Badminton Championships on Saturday. While Calcutta University men beat Jadavpur 2-1 in the final, the women’s team defeated Jadavpur 2-0 to seal the title. In the men’s individual section, Shiladitya Mukherjee (JU) beat Deep Ghosh (CU) in the final, while Dolly Ghosh (CU) overcame Avilasa Das (CU).
Nipendranath High School defeated St Xavier’s in the senior boys group on the opening day of the 35th Indian Oil Servo National Inter-School Regatta at the Lake club. In junior girls’ section, Jagatpur School from Orissa beat St Michael Academy of Chennai while Boys School Kirkee, Pune overcame St. Joseph and Mary ‘A’.
Not a ball was bowled in the P. Sen Trophy matches on Saturday because of wet ground conditions. Kalighat, CAB President’s XI and DKS won their matches by the spin of the coin.
Suparna Bhattacharya will face Sugandha Roy in the sub-junior girls’ final of the CLT Table tennis meet. Suparna beat Rivika Biswas 8-11, 11-4, 11-7 while Sugandha outsmarted Riya Dutta 9-11, 11-9, 11-8.
