Bordeaux: Germany and Italy were locked 1-1 after 90 minutes in the Euro 2016 quarter final at the Stade de Bordeaux on Saturday.

Mesut Ozil gave Germany the lead in the 65th minute after a cut-back from Jonas Hector. Mario Gomez made his way down the left flank before feeding Hector to play a ball across the goalmouth, which deflected towards Ozil. The forward smartly slotted it into the left corner of the net.

Just as the match seemed to be headed Germany's way, a blunder from Jerome Boateng awarded the Italians a penalty. Leonardo Bonucci converted to make it 1-1.

Italy footballers, meanwhile, sported black armbands to mourn the Italian victims of the terrorist attack in Dhaka. Nine Italians were among 20 foreigners who died in the carnage.

Calling the incident "a tragedy", a statement by the Italian football federation (FIGC) said: "The Italian football federation, its staff and all the players stand united with the entire country and the family of the victims.

"As a result, we have requested and received from Uefa permission to wear black armbands during the game against Germany as a symbol of our sympathy in what is a very painful time."

A minute's silence, in tribute to the victims, was also observed by both teams prior to the start of Saturday's quarter final.

Joachim Loew opted to play three central defenders as he looked to counter the threat of Italy's strike force.
