West Indies beat Bangladesh by 10 wickets in the second Test and took a one-sided series 2-0 at the Daren Sammy Stadium. Both Tests were won well inside four days. A wet field washed out the first two sessions on Monday, but when Bangladesh resumed on 132/6, needing 42 more runs to make West Indies bat again, play lasted less than 12 overs.

Bangladesh’s second innings extended nine more overs and 54 more runs before it was all over on 186. Nurul Hasan was stranded on 60 not out from 50 balls.

Needing 13 runs to win, West Indies openers John Campbell and captain Kraigg Brathwaite needed just 17 balls to reach the target and ensure victory. Bangladesh’s 100th Test loss came after they scored 234 and 186 and West Indies 408 and 13 not out.

Khaled Ahmed was run out for a duck from the non-striker’s end when Nurul wasn’t looking for a run.

Brief scores: Bangladesh 103 & 245; West Indies 265 & 88/3. West Indies won by 7 wickets

Spin test for Aus

Australia can expect a trial by spin when Pat Cummins and his men lock horns with Sri Lanka in a two-Test series in Galle beginning on Wednesday. The picturesque stadium is where Sri Lankan spin stalwarts Muttiah Muralitharan and Rangana Herath routinely beguiled the touring batsmen. Led by Man-of-the-Series Herath in 2016, Sri Lanka’s spinners claimed 54 of the 58 wickets on their way to a 3-0 rout of Steve Smith’s team when Australia last visited the island.

Australia’s triumphed in Pakistan earlier this year, but their vulnerability against left-arm spin means they cannot take anything for granted.

Their batters average 21.36 against left-arm orthodox spin since 2016, the lowest of any Test teams except for minnows Ireland and Afghanistan.

Opener David Warner is still looking for his first Test hundred against Sri Lanka while Smith has managed only one century in his last 18 tests.
