India Women held their nerves when it mattered, beating their Australian counterparts via Super Over in the second T20I at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday to level the series 1-1.

Putting Australia in to bat, the Indians rode Smriti Mandhana’s 79 (off 49 balls) and meaty blows in the closing overs from Richa Ghosh (26 not out off 13 balls) and Devika Vaidya (11 not out off 5 balls) to ensure they matched the visitors’ total of 187 for 1 losing five wickets.

In the Super Over thereafter, Mandhana hit a four and a six before taking a three while Ghosh hit a maximum too as India set Australia a target of 21. Pacer Renuka Singh did most things right and also dismissed Ashleigh Gardner, as Australia fell four runs short of India’s 20.

After Beth Mooney (82 not out) and Tahlia McGrath (70 not out) helped Australia to a formidable total, India seemed to be losing their plot following Mandhana’s dismissal. With 40 needed off 21 balls, Ghosh and Vaidya made sure the game went till the Super Over.

Brief scores: Australia Women 187/1 in 20 ovs (B. Mooney 82 n.o., T. McGrath 70 n.o.). India Women 187/5 in 20 ovs (S. Mandhana 79; H. Graham 3/22). India Women won via Super Over.
