The BCCI will seek explanations from Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly and Robin Singh for airing views to the media on the country?s performance in the World Cup in violation of contractual obligations.
?I spoke to president Raj Singh Dungarpur yesterday. He has asked me to seek an explanation from three players,? BCCI secretary J.Y. Lele told newspersons here today.
The decision to despatch letters to the three tomorrow comes in the wake of controversy after Robin Singh reportedly told mediapersons in Mumbai about the lack of knowledge in the Indian thinktank over points system in the World Cup.
While star batsman Dravid had aired his views in an interview, Ganguly did so in a signed article in a Bengali daily of Calcutta. The stylish left-hander is currently out of the country.
Robin Singh has subsequently clarified that he had been misquoted by the media.
Lele said that coach Aunshuman Gaekwad and captain Azharuddin had aired their views at length on the country?s performance in the World Cup and that it was not proper for players to do the same.
The Board, however, is considering suggestions to give freedom to players to talk to the media on other issues, Lele said.
Skipper at month-end
The Indian skipper for the next month?s triangular series in Sri Lanka will be named between July 27 and 30, Lele said, adding the exact date would be decided only after finalising the dates of the Board?s working committee meeting, which is also scheduled for the end of this month. Venues for both meetings are yet to be decided. The tri-series, which also invloves Australia, comes off from August 22 to 29.
He said the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) had come forward to set up the proposed academy. Earlier, the Board had favoured setting up the academy at the SAI Southern Centre here. KSCA secretary Brijesh Patel said they were willing to construct an indoor stadium for the academy.
Lele said there have been suggestions to have regional academies.
The Board has already earmarked Rs 3 crore for the academy, which was likely to cost Rs 5 crore.
