Calcutta: Bhuvneshwar Kumar doesn't think getting to know David Warner as captain and teammate at Sunrisers Hyderabad has helped him much in the recent series.
On Thursday, the India pacer dismissed Warner for 1 in the fifth over to hasten Australia's doom.
"I know where he lacks. He also knows where I am about to bowl..." Bhuvi, who finished with three for 9, said. "IPL is such a platform where everyone gets to know each other. You need to execute things on the ground. The one who will execute well will come out winner."
But he did plan Warner's dismissal. "Yes I planned it... After the first ball I bowled, I knew there was some swing on the wicket. Generally, I bowl outswingers to him in Tests... So I knew there was a good chance I could get him out. And for Cartwright it was normal, top of off-stump."
Bhuvi doesn't wish to label him as a premier pacer across formats. "I won't say premier as everyone is premier when they get the opportunity. Same for me... So that's something which we never really think about."
Bhuvi credits the training regime for his evolvement as a bowler. "When I started, I used to depend on conditions. Then I started improving as I played more international cricket. The more you play, you know the areas you need to improve upon. One year after I started playing, I knew I had to increase pace.
"I had no clue how to do it. Then our trainer (Shankar) Basu came and changed the training regime. Knowingly or unknowingly, my pace increased and with that my death bowling has also improved."
Bhuvi admits that batting in one-dayers still remains an area which needs improvement.
"I haven't tried anything different. I have natural talent and I know I can bat. Specially, when it comes to Tests I am comfortable. In ODIs, it's not that easy since I bat lower down the order. But in the last three-four matches, I could bat for 10-15 overs...
"The innings in Kandy (53 not out off 80 balls) gave me the confidence that I can contribute in ODIs as well."
