New Delhi: India had yet another fruitful day in the Asian Olympic qualifiers on Friday when 23-year-old rifle girl Ayonika Paul dished out a dazzling performance to earn the country's 11th quota place for the Rio Olympics.

Known in the shooting fraternity for her grit and determination, Ayonika won India's second quota in the 10-metre air rifle event by winning a silver medal after an engrossing battle with Iranian shooter Najmeh Khidmati. Apurvi Chendela had earlier clinched a quota in the same event.

"To win a quota place for India is always a tremendous feeling... I am feeling like being on the top of the world," said the Mumbai-based shooter, who is pursuing her Masters degree in electronics.

"But I am a bit disappointed too. I should have won the gold, but had to settle for the silver. My preparations for the Rio will start from where I lost the gold medal today," she said.

"The last two shots are still ringing in my ears. I was here to win gold, but the Iranian finished strongly. I will start training from tomorrow morning itself to ensure I improve on my first and last shots," she added.

A silver medallist in the 2014 Commonwealth Games, Ayonika has reasons to feel disappointed.

She was in roaring form from the beginning and after the 40-shot qualifying round, she hit 416.6 to be placed third and enter the eight-woman final round along with compatriot Pooja Ghatkar. It comprises 20 shots in which the shooters start getting eliminated after the eighth round.
