New Delhi: India head coach Anil Kumble made it clear that pink-ball Tests are "still a long way" even though he conceded that Day/Night Tests are the future if one wants to sustain the inteest of cricket lovers in the longer format.

Chief coach Kumble said that his immediate focus is on how the boys fair against Dukes red balls in the West Indies when asked how Indian spinners would do with pink kookaburra on subcontinental pitches.

"We haven't really thought about pink ball yet as far as I know. It's still a long way. We will be playing with Dukes red ball in the West Indies. I would like to take one match at a time.

"The West Indies series is important for us. We have practised for last six days with red Dukes. Once we start looking at pink ball, we will begin to think about it," Kumble said.

However, Kumble, who is also chairman of the prestigious ICC cricket committee, did admit that Day/Night Test match is the way forward.

"I would certainly back Day/Night (Test) cricket. Anything we need to do to get crowd back to Test cricket... At least that is the future.

"In Day/Night matches, people can come to the stadium after office hours," he said.

On the other hand, West Indies coach Phil Simmons said it would be very tough for his side to perform in the Day/Night Test against Pakistan, as they do not have enough experience of playing with the pink ball.

"It's going to be hard for us because we have not played enough Day/Night cricket down here to test the ball and to know what happens in the night. The players have told me it was good from the crowd's point of view, but a lot of them say there are a number of things that need to be fixed," Simmons said.

Coming back to Kumble, he termed India's Test captain Virat Kohli a "fantastic batsman and leader."

"I am really excited to work with Virat. I have seen him as an under-19 player at the Royal Challengers Bangalore. He has matured a lot in the last couple of years.
