New Delhi: The AIFF and its marketing agents Strata, have finally managed to procure a sponsor for the National Football League (NFL).
Announcing this on Tuesday, the AIFF president Priya Ranjan Das Munshi said that Coca Cola has signed an agreement with the federation to sponsor the tournament for two years. The contract is also likely to be extended till 2007. The NFL co-sponsors are Kingfisher and Tatas. Incidentally, Coca Cola had also sponsored the third edition of the NFL. The AIFF president also said that Doordarshan will start telecasting NFL matches live from January. A deal to show weekly highlights by Ten Sports will be finalised on Wednesday.
World Cup qualifiers
In another development, Das Munshi announced that India will kick off their World Cup qualifying battle on February 18, away in Singapore.
The AIFF will request the AFC to change the fixture so that India’s last home match is against Japan and not Oman.
