Adya in semis

Top seed Adya Advani moved into the semi-finals of the under-19 category of the Bengal Junior Open, at Calcutta Racket Club, on Saturday. Adya beat Shreya Suresh 11-4, 11-2, 11-5.

Calcutta: Top seed Adya Advani moved into the semi-finals of the under-19 category of the Bengal Junior Open, at Calcutta Racket Club, on Saturday. Adya beat Shreya Suresh 11-4, 11-2, 11-5.

This tournament will serve as a sort of dress rehearsal for Adya, who will represent India in the World Junior Championship in Netherlands from July 31, and the Asian Junior Championship in Iran next month.

In the boys' section, the preliminary round matches were held on the opening day. The seeded players sailed through without much hiccup.

WINNERS

Girls - U-11 (quarter finals): Pooja Arthi, S Akshaya Sri, Aasya Patel, Saisha Gupta; U-17 (quarter finals): Simran Nagpal, Nandika Kumar, Vedika M Arun, Amita Gondi; U-19 (quarter finals): Adya Advani, Riddhi Sampat, Riya Sisodia, Aishwarya Bhattacharya.
