Calcutta, March 4 :     India thrashed Sri Lanka 7-1 in the Inter Army Friendship Football tournament at the Salt Lake Stadium today. India, who dominated the match all through, took a 3-0 lead in the first half. Skipper Lal Machuana scored a brace, while Saroj Gurung netted the third. The second half saw a similar picture, with the Indians consolidating their lead by four more goals. Sajith Kumar found the target thrice and Sominthang scored one. In the dying minutes of the game, Sarathsiri pulled one back for Sri Lanka. Hockey league In the lone second division hockey encounter today, Bengal United defeated Ranganathpur 4-0. Punit Orao scored a brace, while L. Bilong and Champa Minz scored one each to complete the tally. In third division, Islamia H.S. and WBG Press played out a goalless draw, while Young Society thrashed Behala Sports Association 5-0. Arup Das and Satya Singh scored a brace each while Jarnail Singh scored one. First division postponed The start of the first division BHA hockey league was today postponed to Saturday. The first division was to have started tomorrow with Howrah Union taking on Baranagore. However, with six Howrah Union players busy writing their Madhyamik examinations the team could not have fielded its full complement. On Saturday, the 90-match two-group league gets off with Calcutta Police meeting Police AC and Durgapur Steel taking on Calcutta Rangers.
