Abhishek Ambekar is all set to sign a contract with East Bengal for the new season on Thursday and will inform the All India Football Federation that he would like to discontinue his case against the club he played for in 2019-20. East Bengal will play in the ISL from this season after roping in Shree Cements as the investor.

East Bengal officially transferred all sporting rights to Shree Cement East Bengal Foundation, the newly formed joint venture between the club and their investors, Shree Cement Limited, on Tuesday.

Ambekar, along with other players and coaching staff, saw their contracts revoked after the club’s erstwhile investor Quess Corp applied the force majeure clause in the last week of April.

The defender had moved the players’ status committee of the AIFF demanding salary from Quess East Bengal FC.

“Now that he is signing a one-year deal, there was no point in pursuing with this case,” a source said on Wednesday.

Samad Ali Mallick, another player who was at the receiving end of Quess Corp’s unilateral decision to terminate contracts, is also expected to sign on the dotted line for the club. Pintu Mahata, who spent the last season at the red and gold brigade, has already joined Sudeva FC, the Delhi-based I-League debutants.

Bagan celebration

Mohun Bagan will receive the I-League trophy from AIFF secretary Kushal Das on October 17.

At an executive committee meeting held on Wednesday, it was decided that Bagan would celebrate the occasion on that day at the club tent, maintaining the social distancing protocols.

The club tent would be opened for members and supporters a day earlier.
