Rourkela, July 8: Six youths looted gold worth more than Rs 3 crore and cash from the local office of Mumbai-based India Infoline Finance Limited around 5.30 this evening.

Chandni Mandal, who had visited the bank located at Max Lane to get a gold loan, said: "First, one person entered, then came another. They were followed by two more youths, who took guard at the entrance. The duo, who had entered first asked a bank employee about the manager's room. They went there, came out after five minutes and suddenly the duo and the two youths entered the office and started putting guns on everybody's head."

At that time, there were three staff members and four customers in the bank.

Another customer, Manisha Kolita, who happens to be Chandni's sister, said: "They put a gun on my head and took away my mobile phone."

When manager Guruprasad Mohanty did not agree to hand over the cash to them, they assaulted him. "Soon the manager gave the key to the chest and they packed the gold in a big sack and also collected all the cash. Then two more youths entered the office and the six robbers took away the hard disk of the CCTV camera and left the branch," said Chandni.

Mohanty said the total gold stolen by them could be well over Rs 3 crore. The weight could be more than one quintal. "I cannot tell the exact amount of the cash as we had not counted them," he said.

The manager said all the youths were in their early thirties and of medium height. "Only one person was around 40, while all others were in their early thirties," said Mohanty.

The customers also corroborated his statement. Inspector in charge of Plant Site police station Upendra Pradhan said: "Checking has been made at all the exit points of the city."
