Bhubaneswar, Aug. 25: Young dramatists of the state have reason to cheer. A workshop on different aspects of theatre is soon going to be held in the capital. The workshop will include sessions by leading theatre personalities. Organised by Uttarpurush theatre group, the workshop aims to groom upcoming dramatists.
An annual event, the fourth edition of the workshop — Rangabharati — will be held from August 28 where resource persons from different fields of theatre production will be interacting with the participants.
“The response of drama aspirants has been encouraging the last three years. This year, we have already selected 18 applicants and we are looking to train 25,” said Abhinna Routroy, member of Uttarpurusha. While veteran theatre personality Surya Mohanty was the director of the workshop in all the earlier editions, this year well-known dramatist and stage designer Asim Basu will be looking after the workshop.
“We have had resource persons such as Himanshu Khatua, Dibakar Mohanty, Prashanta Sharma and Choudhury Jai Prakash. This year we have prolific music composer Prafulla Kar as the resource person for drama music while well-known Odissi dancer Aruna Mohanty will be giving sessions on dance. Dolagovinda Rath will conduct the training in creative direction,” said Routroy.
Seemanta Mohanty will be training the participants in light direction while Banchanidhi Patnaik will give sessions on make-up. Pratap Rout will lead from the front on stage music.
“The workshop last year was only on theatre production. This time we are providing basic orientation in different aspects of drama,” said Gourishyam Mohapatra, organisation general secretary of Uttarpurusha. The workshop will be on till September 18 at the Secretariat Recreation Club every evening. The participants are excited about it.
