A three-day medical education workshop was recently conducted at the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital, faculty of medicine of the Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (deemed university), in which 22 medical practitioners took part. The workshop, approved by the Medical Council of India, had talk sessions on various subjects, including competency based medical education, with each deliberation being followed by a group task and interactive session. Neurosurgeon Sureswar Mohanty was the chief guest at the inaugural function who spoke about latest trends in the field.
Utkal 2nd campus
The Utkal University is planning to start with three departments on its second campus at Chandikhole in Jajpur district. It has decided to commence classes from July this year. This decision was taken in the meeting of university’s syndicate, the apex decision-making body of the institute. The members discussed about opening of department of business and management studies, department of natural sciences and department of social sciences and liberal art.
Student’s training
An entrepreneurship student’s training meet was organised in Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology for teachers and managers of Erasmus Plus Silice delegates from January 22 to 25 this month. Forty delegates from Israel, Germany, Portugal, Scotland and Croatia took part in the meet, which aimed to develop social innovation and social entrepreneurship in Israeli and Indian local communities. Silice is an international capacity building project with 14 universities and institutions from six countries, which will continue for minimum three years. The meet led to creative intermingling amongst the participnats, proactive cross border learning and opened the doors to promote more such
programmes.
Rural fair
The Xavier School of Rural Management organised their annual rural fair on January 18. The future rural managers showcased their knowledge, which they gained during their stay at various parts of the country. The exhibits at the fair consisted of the specialties of the places, which the students explored, including artifacts, clothing, unique ornaments and eateries. The participants shared their experience of rural culture, their means of support, governance and business during their 45-day stay at rural areas representing various cultures. About 91 students took part in the programme. A live performance was put up by the students and the script was based on the theme “Lets Make India Open-Defecation Free”.
Traffic volunteers
Police appointed 75 students out of 160 applicants, who would be assisting the traffic personnel in Balasore, to regulate the traffic in the city.
The student brigade includes 24 girls as well. Balasore is the fifth district in deploying students in traffic duty after Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Brahmapur and Rourkela. All the selected students went through test and interview. The students would be deployed for three hours in a day. They will be paid a basic remuneration of Rs 100 on a daily basis. These students were further provided with 10-day training on road safety, traffic rules, regulation and management system ahead of deployment. Additionally, they have to be on duty 15 days in a month.
Freedom & creativity
A symposium on “Consciousness, Freedom and Creativity”, as a part of 30th Session of All Odisha Philosophy Association, was organised at Rama Devi Women’s University in Bhubaneswar.
Students shared their life experiences and sought expert advice on a range of issues at the event.
