Bhubaneswar, Dec. 18: Young artist Seema Agarwal showcased her artworks on clay and other mediums at an art exhibition at Hotel Janpath here.

The three-day event titled 'Visual art on clay pot' is organised by the Rotary Club of Bhubaneswar Heritage.

Clay pots have been decorated with thick lines of bright acrylic shades to create impressive art patterns. Seema has liberally used fluorescent shades of colours such as green and yellow as the base and has tried her hand at versatile designs from floral to tribal and even abstract forms of human face profiles.

Most of the pots are huge vases suitable for decoration in the interiors of houses and restaurants. She has chosen a wide range of shapes of terracotta vases that add to the visual appeal of her works.

Seema has also presented some murals and paintings that also sport similar attractive bright hues and nature-based images. From sceneries of landscape to trees, flowers and animals - her works have covered various aspects of nature. The young artist has also touched upon subjects of human interest.

"I have tried to use acrylic shades on various materials from clay to canvas. I mostly love to work on terracotta," said Seema. She has mostly learnt painting on clay on her own though she constantly interacts with artists.

"Artists like Seema should be encouraged because we need more artists in the city as many leave a career in art," said Tarakant Parida, a senior artist and secretary of the Odisha Lalit Kala Akademi.

Seema's works are also for sale with the paintings priced between a range of Rs 2,000 to Rs 6,000 and vases priced up to Rs 20,000.

With the gifting season under way with Christmas and New Year around the corner, many visitors are dropping in to have a look of the artworks, especially the terracotta vases and pots.

"The collection is interesting. Picking one of these will be a distinct gift for the New Year," said Pratima Das, a city-based art connoisseur. The exhibition is on till Sunday.
