Berhampur: A 32-year-old man on Thursday slit the throat of a 22-year-old woman, who was married 10 days ago, at Ashram Karadabadi village of the Ganjam district.

The accused, Milu Jena, also slit his own throat after killing the victim, Banita Palei, and is admitted at MKCG.

Bhanjanagar sub-divisional police officer Utkal Keshari Das said Banita married Sanatan Palai of Goliagaon in Buguda on July 15. She had come to her parens' house at Ashram Karadabadi with her husband on Wednesday. "Milu, who is married and has two children, is Banita's nephew. Milu came to her house on Thursday morning and attacked Banita with a knife. She died on spot. After her death, he also slit his own throat," said Das.

Police suspect that there was a love affair between Milu and Banita.

"We can throw more light on the incident once Milu recovers," he said.
