Bhubaneswar, May 22: A 29-year-old woman of Paikanagar area in the city today alleged that a bullet hit her in the morning. Police, however, said that it was a pellet that hit the woman on her right hand.

The woman, identified as Samita Dash, said that she was drying clothes on the roof of her house this morning when something hit her right arm. Initially, she did not realise what had hit her. When she saw blood coming out of her arm, she called her husband.

“We went to a private clinic in Baramunda, where a doctor told me that a metal like substance is stuck inside my arm. Once he removed it, we found that it was a small bullet,” said Samita, a mother of two. Samita stays at Paikanagar with her family members. Her husband Parthsarathi Dash is a businessman, having establishments in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.

After returning to house, the couple informed the police about the matter. Samita, who was terrified after she came to know that the substance was a bullet, said: “I had no enmity with anyone. Why should someone shoot me? I am afraid and suspect that someone is trying to kill me.”

On receiving the information, the Nayapalli police visited the spot and seized the pellet from the couple.

“The substance was not a bullet. It appears to be a pellet that is used in toy guns. We searched around the house and checked the nearby houses. We could not, however, find anything,” said a police officer.

Samita’s house is surrounded by several other houses and apartments. The police checked all these buildings to find if someone might have played a prank from these highrise structures but could get nothing.

In September last year, a person had sustained injuries when two youths had fired at him from a toy gun to terrorise him following an altercation between them over one vehicle overtaking another in the Jayadev Vihar area. The police had detained the two persons. They were, however, allowed to go later, as the injured person did not lodge a formal complaint with the police.
