Bhubaneswar, July 24: Police today arrested a foreign national for allegedly assaulting and abusing a few cops in an inebriated condition last night.
Though an Aadhaar card was found in her possession - identifying her as 22-year-old Duniya Khan, a resident of Lajpat Nagar in south Delhi - the police suspected the card to be forged.
Last night, the woman was spotted sleeping on a pavement holding a liquor bottle near a posh hotel at Kharavela Nagar in the city. This made local residents suspicious, and they immediately informed the police. When the police reached the spot to rescue her, the woman started abusing the cops and even manhandled a few of them. Later, the police personnel managed to take the woman to Capital Hospital even though she kept hurling abuses at them. The police said the woman had assaulted the cops at the hospital as well.
"The woman could speak a few words in Hindi and broken English. Our personnel tried to cool her down with folded hands, but she continued to abuse and manhandle them. She also threatened to inform the matter to one Putin while being taken to hospital," said a police official.
The police have found Rs 49,500 in cash, a key of a guesthouse, an iPhone and the Aadhaar card in her possession.
Further investigation revealed the Aadhaar card of being issued on March 8, 2017.
"A Facebook profile on the name of one Zeboo Asalina was found to be created using the phone number given by the woman in her Aadhaar card. The photographs of the arrested woman and the Facebook profile pictures of Zeboo Asalina matched. So, we suspected her Aadhaar card to be forged," he said.
Earlier, deputy commissioner of police Satyabrata Bhoi said the woman was not co-operating and refusing to reveal her identity. "We will seek the help of our counterparts in Delhi to ascertain the genuineness of the Aadhaar card. Besides, we will also investigate the purpose of her visit to the city and who accompanied her," said Bhoi.
Later, she admitted that her name was Zeboo Asalina, and she was the resident of Tashkent in Uzbekistan. The woman also claimed that she had come to Delhi five months ago and reached Bhubaneswar five days back.
The police said the woman was arrested under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), 341 (wrongful restraint), 294 (use of obscene language) and 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his or her duty) of the Indian Penal Code. The police will now write to the Uzbekistan embassy to verify the claim made by the accused woman.
The woman has been sent to Jharpara jail after her bail application was rejected.
In March last year, Chandrasekharpur police had rescued a 30-year-old sex worker, who had come from Kyrgyzstan, from an apartment in the city. Later, the police had found one Somesh Panda, who had brought the foreign national to Bhubaneswar having close links with a pimp, Sunil Meher. The woman was later sent to a short-stay home, where she had stayed for more than week before being handed over to the embassy officials.
