Bhubaneswar, March 2: Mahila police today detained a 30-year-old woman for allegedly helping some men gang rape a six-year-old girl in Jharsuguda.
Police said the victim’s family members and neighbours lodged a complaint and handed over the accused, Lucky Das, to them this morning.
“In the complaint, they have mentioned that the woman lured the girl on February 25 promising to provide her a job in Jharsuguda. The girl had left her house with the woman,” said a police officer.
Das later told the family that the girl was in Jharsuguda. When the family wanted the girl back home, she came back to narrate how she was assaulted.
“The sexual harassment continued for five days,” said one of the neighbours of the victim.
The police took the victim to Capital Hospital for medical examination. “A police team will go to Jharsuguda to arrest other accused,” said an officer of mahila police station.

The woman, identified as Sukanya Banerjee, 26, killed herself yesterday by hanging herself from the ceiling fan at her in-laws’ house in Mancheswar.
