Bhubaneswar, Jan. 2: A woman sustained burn injuries when her house in the Bhagbati slum caught fire this morning. The accident took place while she was cooking.

Neighbours rushed to her house after hearing the shrieks of 30-years-old Reena Sahu. Her husband Sreedhar Sahu was not at home at the time of the incident.

“Reena sustained 40 per cent burn injuries while trying to save her belongings,” said a neighbour. She was rushed to the Capital Hospital from where she was later shifted to a private hospital.

The fire brigade, which rushed to the spot following an emergency call, doused the fire before it could spread to other houses in the neighbourhood. Most of the houses in the slum have thatched rooves.

“We rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control. No other houses were damaged,” said a fire brigade officer.

In another incident in Chandrasekharpur, a person died under mysterious circumstances after falling from the roof of multi-storeyed apartment. The 30-years-old deceased was identified as Prasant Pattnaik, a resident of the Dumuduma Housing Board Colony under Khandagiri police station limits.

His father Panchanan Pattnaik lodged a complaint with the police alleging that Prashant had been murdered. He alleged that his son fell to the ground and died after being pushed from behind on the roof of the apartment.

Police registered an unnatural death case and sent the body to the Capital Hospital for post-mortem.
