Bhubaneswar, Nov. 17: Police today arrested the sister of Trupti Routray, who had allegedly killed her husband Pramod Routray, at his Cuttack Road apartment on November 7.

Trupti’s sister Sangeeta, 24, has been charged with complicity in helping dispose of Pramod’s body.

His body was found in a water body near Deras horticulture farm in Chandaka police limits on November 8.

The police had earlier arrested 26-year-old Trupti, her father Raj Kishore Mohapatra, 55, and her brother Mahesh Mohapatra, 21, for their involvement in killing the businessman and subsequently disposing of the body.

The police said that Sangeeta was arrested on the basis of information gathered while interrogating the other three accused. The police had also examined the closed circuit television footage when Pramod’s body was being taken out of the apartment.

“After Trupti killed her husband, the other three accused reached the apartment on Cuttack Road and together disposed of the body. The accused have confessed to their role in the crime starting from taking the body out of the apartment and dumping it in the water body,” deputy commissioner of police Satyabrata Bhoi said.

However, the police said that they were still examining the claim of Pramod’s kin that he had been killed for property. “So far we have not found any substantial property belonging to the businessman,” a police official said.

The police also maintained that mental and physical torture of the woman was the prime motive behind the murder. “It is clear that they had a strained conjugal life and Pramod used to torture Trupti,” Bhoi said.

Though Pramod’s family members have also accused Trupti of being a person of doubtful character, the couple’s 10-year-old son had told the police that his father used to torture his mother.

Earlier, the police had said that Pramod was sexually perverted and used to derive pleasure by forcing her wife to sleep with others.

Besides, a fortnight before his murder, Pramod allegedly tried to kill Trupti by lacing her juice with sleeping pills.

Unable to take the torture anymore, on November 7, Trupti allegedly added 25 sleeping pills in Pramod’s protein shake and strangulated him with her dupatta once he became unconscious. Later, Trupti, along with her family members, transported Pramod’s body in an SUV and dumped it in the water body near Deras.
