Wanted criminal in police net

Police today arrested Yunus Khan, 26, a dreaded criminal wanted in nearly 20 cases, and his associate Sanjiv Behera, 21, at Jagannath Lane near busy the Badambadi area.

Cuttack, May 22: Police today arrested Yunus Khan, 26, a dreaded criminal wanted in nearly 20 cases, and his associate Sanjiv Behera, 21, at Jagannath Lane near busy the Badambadi area.

The two have been involved in a series of extortion and robbery cases.

Two semi-automatic pistols and five rounds of bullets were seized from the duo. Another goon managed to flee.

Police commissioner R.P. Sharma said Yunus was one of the key associates of gangster Tito and more than 20 cases were pending against him at various police stations in Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur and other areas. "The special squad was closely monitoring the movements of Yunus, who was wanted in several cases including the firing on a youth at Dargha Mastan area in March," said Sharma, adding that there was no exchange of fire and Yunus got injured after he fell down while trying to escape from the spot.

Sources said the three were riding a motorcycle when they were intercepted near Shenhalata apartment near Bikash Bhawan at Jagannath lane at Badambadi. After seeing the cops, Yunus took out his pistol and tried to fire at the cops. But the weapon got locked and no bullet was fired.
