Bhubaneswar, Nov. 21: Eminent veterinary pathologists today called for more funds for the betterment of livestock to ensure better socio-economic development of farmers.

“Infrastructure development is still lacking in the health care delivery institutions meant for animals and birds. While the entire agriculture sector is now in the focus and monetary allocation is on the rise, the veterinary sector is still lying behind for fund allocation in research and development activity,” said veterinary pathologist and president of Veterinary Council of India, lieutenant general Narayan Mohanty.

Mohanty was speaking at the inaugural function of the 30th annual conference of Indian Association of Veterinary Pathologists at the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology here today.

Asserting that much stress has not given towards the veterinary sector despite having the largest livestock in the world, Mohanty said: “The time has come to lay more emphasis on research in the animal husbandry sector.”
