Sambalpur, Aug. 31: Two years on, nothing has been done following the development authority’s decision to develop a two-storey market complex near Jail Chhak here.

The Sambalpur Development Authority (SDA) has already identified a 30-decimal plot along the Jail Chhak-Kacheri Chhak road for the market complex. But despite the availability of land and funds, the SDA is yet to begin work.

The SDA has constructed several market complexes at strategic locations in the city. These complexes are permanent sources income for the authority.

“The proposed market complex near Jail Chhak could generate revenue for the SDA. But the agency does not appear to be serious about the project,” said a local resident Rajesh Dash.

“The complex will generate employment. People can run their business in the market complex and earn their livelihood. I am yet to understand the reason behind the delay,” said Binaya Kumar Mishra, another local resident.

SDA chairperson Bijaya Mohanty admitted that the market complexes were permanent source of income for the authority.

However, he said: “The plan and estimate of the proposed market complex near Jail Chhak has already been prepared. The project has already got technical approval and is awaiting the administrative approval. Once the process is through, we will float a tender.”

He also said that the proposed complex near Jail Chhak would be a two-storey building with 16 shops in it.
