Bhubaneswar, May 2: The school and mass education department has withdrawn recognition of two schools for failing to meet the conditions set by the state government.
The two schools — Tihula Maa Mangala High School in Nuapada block under Puri district and the Madasasan Biswanath Sanskrit Toll in Kendrapada district — had come under scanner following complaints reaching the Assembly Petition Committee.
The schools were being run without minimum infrastructure as specified in the Orissa Education Act, 1969, said an official. Acting on some complaints, senior school and mass education department officials initiated an inquiry into the incident. Apart from poor infrastructure, the Tihula Maa Mangala High School in Puri education district had failed to achieve a success rate of minimum 50 per cent in its high school certificate examination results in the last three consecutive years.
The school land was not its own and the student intake was too low, the inquiry revealed. The Madasasan Biswanath Sanskrit Toll in Kendrapada education district was also running without proper infrastructure. It was not built on its own land and had a very low student intake. There were no libraries and classrooms in the school, and here, too, more than 50 per cent of the students had failed in the high school certificate examination in the last three consecutive years.
“These schools had been receiving full grant-in-aid from the government since June 1994. However, the school authorities were not serious in managing their institutions. This triggered resentment among local residents and there had been frequent complaints. The report submitted by the management committee was also not satisfactory,” said the official.
