Bhubaneswar, May 29: A Maoist couple today surrendered before Puri police. Twenty-two-year-old Rajalaxmi Biswal and her husband were involved in the 2008 Maoist attack on district armoury in Nayagarh.

Surrendering before police, Rajalaxmi alleged that she was being subjected to both physical and mental torture by the higher ups in the Maoist organisation.

“After I joined the Maoists, the secretary of the organisation tortured me both mentally and physically. He was even opposed to my marriage with Aniruddha. After the marriage, he used to send out my husband for various works and tortured me physically and mentally.”

Rajalaxmi, who hails from Paidakula village in Jagatsinghpur district, was inducted into the Maoist organisation in 2007 by Rinki Pal and Prasanna Pal of her village. Rajlaxmi was in the reserve team for the Nayagarh police armoury attack and engaged in cooking food at Goshma for the cadres who had participated in the Nayagarh armoury and attack on other places.

Rajalaxmi’s husband, 36-year-old Aniruddha Behera, was a divisional committee member of the organisation. He was also involved in the Nayagarh armoury looting incident. He, along with 40 cadres, had carried the arms and ammunition from the vehicles to the top of Gosma hill. Besides, he was involved in seven other major incidents.
