Balangir: Two persons died after being run over by a train on the Tel railway bridge at Luturpank in Titilagarh on Monday evening.

The deceased have been identified as brothers Hrushikesh Sa, 50, and Chudamani Sa, 45, of Boringpadar village of Kalahandi district.

Chudamani died on the spot while Hrishikesh died at sub-divisional headquarters hospital in Titilagarh. After post-mortem, the cops handed over the bodies to the family on Tuesday.

There is no direct motorable road from Titilagarh to Kesinga and people cross using the tracks over the Tel river.

Sources said the two had come to sub-divisional headquarters hospital in Titilagarh on a motorcycle because Hrushikesh had to see a doctor. After consultation with the doctor, they were returning home when the accident took place. When they were crossing the lines on the bridge, the Sambalpur-Junagarh Passenger knocked them off the tracks.

Balakrushna Sandh, a social activist said people were forced to take the route because there was no road between Titilagarh and Kesinga.

"The bridge over river Tel is incomplete and not yet opened for the public. The alternative route is a 30km journey. So, people prefer to use the railway track even though it is dangerous," he said.
