Bhubaneswar, July 5: Two persons were killed and ten others injured in three separate road accidents in the city today.
In the first incident that took place around 6.30am near Unit VIII DAV school, a man was killed and his sister sustained injuries as a car hit their motorcycle. The deceased was identified as 40-year-old Debiprasad Datta, a private bus owner, and the injured as 35-year-old Sanjukta Datta.
The police said that while the duo were going on their motorcycle, a car hit them from behind. While the sister was thrown of the vehicle, Debiprasad came in front of the car that ran over him. “We have seized the car and arrested its driver,” said a police officer.
The officer said the car was new and its owner was learning driving. The deceased was staying in the Unit VIII area and his sister had come to meet their ailing mother.
In the second incident that occurred around noon in the Old Town area, the helper of a tourist bus from Bengal was crushed under the vehicle after falling from it while the bus was taking a turn near the temple. He died on the spot. The Lingaraj police sent the body to hospital for post-mortem and seized the vehicle.
In yet another incident in the afternoon, a bus hit a truck at Kalinga Vihar Square on NH-5 resulting in injuries to at least nine passengers in the bus. According to the Khandagiri police, the bus was going from Baramunda bus stand to Nayagarh. The truck was crossing the road at Kalinga Vihar Square, when the bus hit it from behind. Four passengers were severely injured in the accident. The PCR van rushed the victims to Capital Hospital. The severely injured were identified as Swarnlata Pattnaik, Dillip Rout, Gobinda Nayak and Akshya Behera.
