Keonjhar: Police have arrested two persons for allegedly raping a 19-year-old woman at a remote village in Barbil police limits of the district on Monday night.

The teen, who had offered stiff resistance to the assault, was badly beaten up by the offenders, who ironically, hailed from the same village as that of the survivor.

It is alleged that the accused persons - Bhola Bahadur, 23, and Reajesh Gop, 24 - made their way to the teen's house to rape her by turn. "Her family members had gone to a neighbouring village to attend a social function, when the accused duo trespassed into the house and raped her," said Barbil police station inspector Jagannath Mallick.

"The teen was acquainted with the accused duo. So she let them get into the house without apprehending their evil intention. She tried to confront them and tried to raise alarm, they gagged her mouth with cotton clothes. After physically abusing, they threatened not to reveal their identity," he said.

However, the rape survivor was not cowed down by the threat and narrated her ordeal before her mother. Later, her father lodged FIR with the police on Tuesday, and the accused were arrested from near the village.

Two offenders booked under IPC sections 376 (rape), 557 (assault or criminal force in attempt wrongfully to confine a person), 342 (wrongful confinement), 506 (criminal intimidation) were remanded in judicial custody on Tuesday, the police said.
