Bhubaneswar, March 17: Two persons from Bengal allegedly committed suicide in a hotel room in Puri last night. The bodies of Sudip Mandal and his sister-in-law, Juli, were found hanging from the ceiling fan in the room this morning.

A hotel staff member said: “When they did not open the room we informed the police. In the presence of a magistrate, the police opened the room and found the bodies hanging from the ceiling fan.”

The deceased had checked into the seaside hotel on March 13.

Sources said the deceased hailed from VIP Colony, Andul, in Bengal. They had left behind a suicide note that said no one was responsible for their death.

They added that the duo arrived as tourists and checked into the hotel on the morning of March 13.

According to the hotel staff, they used to leave the hotel early in the morning to visit nearby tourist spots. They would return in the evening looking cheerful after a whole day’s tour. No one ever thought they could do anything of the kind.

Puri police have got in touch with their Bengal counterparts to locate the relatives of the deceased.

“We are in touch with the Bengal police. We will get more details about the deceased soon,” said a senior police officer.

In another shocking incident, a Gujarat-based physician Rakesh K. Rokad drowned in the sea at Puri while taking a bath. The body was sent for post-mortem.
