Jajpur, Aug. 2: Two persons were arrested for allegedly attempting to kill an 11-month-old boy by slitting his throat with a sharp weapon at Susua Thakurpatana village in the district today. The main accused — Tapas Nayak alias Bhima of Susua Thakurpatana village — is at large.
The baby was first admitted to the local government hospital and finally to SCB medical hospital in Cuttack.
It was alleged that the mother of the boy, Urmila, had resented Bhima’s friendship with one of her relatives.
According to the FIR filed by Urmila, Bhima entered her room with two of his friends on Wednesday night while she and her son were sleeping.
“I saw Bhima and his two aides lifting my son. When I raised an alarm, they slit y son’s throat,” said Urmila.
“We are looking for Bhima,” said Deepak Kumar, superintendent of police, Jajpur.
The boy’s condition is stable now.
