Bhubaneswar: Entrepreneur Jyotsna Das has been promoting the state's indigenous fabrics by using them in trendy attires.

Her collection involves bright colours, intricate stitches and contemporary designs.

Indigenous art on apparels was on display at a two-day exhibition that concluded here on Sunday.

To beat the city's heat, Jyotsna has come up with a collection of attires made from light fabrics such as cotton, organza and linen. The collection incorporates traditional Sambalpuri prints and contemporary designs.

"This is for the first time we are organising an exhibition and plans are afoot to organise such exhibitions outside the state as well. We want to encourage the farmers, weavers and artisans of Odisha," said Jyoshna.

A range of the saris in varied colours are available at the store. Her brand, Bivabari, was initiated with an aim to develop newer and better techniques in weaving handloom apparels and to impart contemporary touch to the traditional Odisha handlooms. She has two workshops that employ around 25 artistes.

At the exhibition, another entrepreneur, Ipsita Sahu, showcased tribal jewelleries and agricultural products.

"We work directly with farmers by making them aware about new technologies and give them the direct market linkage," said Ipsita, adding that tribal jewellery goes with both traditional and modern clothes and have good demand.
