Bhubaneswar, Oct. 26: Train services were disrupted for the third consecutive day today with authorities cancelling 15 trains.

The cancelled trains included Bhubaneswar-Bangalore Prashanti Express, Bhubaneswar-Visakhapatnam Inter-City Express, Puri-Tirupati Express and Howrah-Secunderabad Falaknuma Express. Similarly, 19 trains were diverted on alternative routes. The trains included Howrah-Hyderabad East Coast Express, Haldia-Chennai Express, Guwahati-Trivandrum Express, Satyasai Prashanti Nilayam-Howrah Express and Vasco-da-Gama-Howrah Amaravati Express.

Train services were partially restored here today with departure of the Bhubaneswar-Mumbai Konark Express. It had been disrupted for the past 48 hours because of rain in Odisha and Andhra.

“We have been waiting for the Konark Express for the past two days. Finally, the train left Bhubaneswar today,” said Biswajit Sahoo, who left for Mumbai along with his family.

“The water level on the railway tracks at several sensitive areas remains a major concern. Both the up and down lines are yet to be fully fit for train movement. But, since we have to restore the train movement at the earliest, there has to be some speed restrictions,” said the East Coast Railway’s chief public relations officer J.P. Mishra.

“Special patrol teams have been engaged at various locations where the water on the tracks is still above the danger level. Though it’s receding, it might take another 24 hours to resume normal train operations,” said another senior railway official.
