Rourkela, May 4: A minor Bangladeshi girl, whom the Government Railway Police had rescued here last year, was deported to her native country today.

The 16-year-old girl was rescued from Rourkela railway station in April 2015 after she had been found crying and wandering alone at the station.

The person, who had brought her to Rourkela and whom she had initially claimed to be her friend, left her there to fend for herself. He had planned to traffic her to Surat in Gujarat.

The trafficker had promised her that she would be employed in Surat as a domestic help.

Following her rescue, she was kept at Disha Child Line, an non-government organisation, whose co-ordinator Amber Alam said: "We received the girl from the Government Railway Police. Her deportation procedure began after the matter had been brought to the notice of police superintendent, collector and the Bangladesh high commission in Delhi."

Amber said: "During her stay at Disha Child Line, she had mingled well with the employees and others in our hostel."

Sources said the girl had been scheduled to board the Samaleswari Express for Calcutta. "Two Disha Child Line employees and two police officials will escort her. She will be handed over to the BSF inspector general at the Belapur-Tetrapur border," said Alam.
