Traffic advisory for Asian Athletics meet

Leave water bottles, matchboxes and cameras at home before heading for stadium

Bhubaneswar, July 3: Police today issued a detailed traffic advisory for the inaugural ceremony of upcoming 22nd Asian Athletics Championship to be held at Kalinga Stadium between July 5 and 9.

The police have asked the spectators not to carry water bottles, matchboxes and cameras into the stadium.

The police have imposed traffic restrictions on the stretch connecting Vidyut Marg and Jayadev Vihar for the opening ceremony on July 5. Vehicles coming from Nalco Square will be diverted to Acharya Vihar via Jayadev Vihar, while vehicles from Shastri Nagar will be diverted to Sachivalay Marg. The restriction will only be followed from 3pm to 10pm on July 5. There will be no movement of vehicles on the service lane adjoining flyover bridge on the NH-16 from Acharya Vihar to Jayadev Vihar from 3pm to 7pm on Wednesday.

The police said that gate Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 9 would remain open for entry from 3pm onwards on the opening ceremony day. "Spectators should arrive at the entry gates at least two to three hours prior to the commencement of the opening ceremony to prevent congestion. For parking facility, designated zones have been created for the pass and ticket holders at Janata Maidan, Nayapalli Ravanpodi ground and Nicco Park road. The Behera Sahi ground near gate No. 1 can only be used for parking of motorcycles only," said a police official.

Similarly, media personnel can enter the stadium through gate No. 2 only with their permitted vehicles. Pass and ticket holders can enter through gate No. 1, 3 and 4. "All spectators must carry identity proofs such as Aadhar, voter ID and driving licence for easy identification. Besides, they must carry tickets and passes to get entry into the stadium," said another police official.

Earlier, the police have made elaborate security arrangements for the championship. As many as 40 platoons of police will be deployed for the event, along with 400 officers. Besides, the Anti-Terrorism Squad, jawans of the Special Operations Group and the Quick Response Team will also be deployed for smooth conduct of the event.

In another development, the state government has declared a half-day holiday at all government offices in the city on Wednesday for the inaugural ceremony. "Government offices located in Bhubaneswar will be closed by 1.30pm on Wednesday in view of the opening ceremony of the championship," reads a government release.
