Berhampur: Burglars looted gold jewellery weighing over 500 grams and Rs 80,000 in cash from the rented home of a businessman under BN Pur police limits.
Rajiv Kumar Bishoyi said he and his family members were in Puri on January 5. "I had locked the house and kept the keys with my father-in-law and requested him to sleep in the house at night. When his family members came to my house in the evening and opened the outer lock, they saw that the cupboard was broken and the rooms ransacked," he said.
District police superintendent Ajaya Kumar Mishra said Bishoyi had lodged an FIR on Saturday.
As the cupboard was broken before the evening, it is believed that the burglary was conducted during the day, Bishoyi said.
In another incident, Berhampur Sadar police arrested four dacoits who had assembled near the Rest Shed at Lochapada-Gurunthi Road to commit a loot in the area, according to inspector-in-charge Siba Sankar Mahapatra.
"We conducted the raid on the night of January 6. Three of their associates managed to escape, but we nabbed four others. We seized two live bombs and four swords from them," he said.
