Cuttack, Nov 17: The death of a 27-year-old trader at Jobra Majhi Sahi sent shockwaves throughout the city today. This is the second murder in the city in the last 24 hours.

Yesterday, the body of 30-year-old woman was recovered from an isolated area near Jagatpur.

Though the identity of the woman is yet to be ascertained, police suspect that she was murdered.

The body of the youth was recovered from the room of a three storied house, where he was staying for the past two and half years. The deceased has been identified as Amir Nayak, who hails from Berhampur.

Nayak was attacked with a sharp-edged weapon. The police suspect the involvement of two or more persons.

Police sources said Nayak eked out a living by selling silver ornaments and had come to his room at around 11pm yesterday. It is suspected that he might have been killed because of business rivalry. However, the exact motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained.

“Today, Malgodown police received information regarding the death of the youth and immediately rushed to the spot.

“An investigation has been started,” said deputy commissioner of police S. Praveen Kumar.

Nayak’s body was found in his room by Damyanti Behera, the owner of the house, at around 5am. Surprisingly, Nayak’s room was locked from outside and it is suspected that the goons had locked it after murdering him.

“He (Nayak) had come to his room at around 11 pm last night. After we spoke, he went to sleep. However, my room was also locked when I woke up at around 5am,” said Behera.

According to Behera, five families now stay in the building for the past several years. Nayak did not have any kind of rivalry with anyone.

“The main gate of the building was open, but all the doors of our rooms were locked from inside. We did not hear any noise, nor do we have any idea about who killed Nayak,” said Damyanti’s son Sukant Behera.

Today, forensic experts visited the spot and collected evidence from the room.

“It is a clear case of murder and appears that more than two persons are involved in the killing as the youth has suffered multiple injuries. A sniffer dog has led to a trail, but investigation is still on,” said forensic officer-in-charge Lala Chandrakant Chand.
