Cuttack, June 14: A tourist from Darjeeling, who has been allegedly injured in an acid attack by some goons, is undergoing treatment at S.C.B. Medical College and Hospital under police supervision here in the city.
Sadeen Baraily (29), was allegedly attacked by some unidentified criminals who had robbed him of Rs 4,000, his luggage and mobile phone after throwing acid on him on Sunday afternoon.
“Four goons attacked me, looted my money and mobile phone after throwing acid on me near a park,” said Baraily.
According to Baraily, who works in a milk factory at Vasant Vihar in New Delhi, he reached the city on Sunday afternoon. He was attacked while walking beside a park probably near Jobra at around 4pm.
Police had rescued the youth from Mahanadi Vihar and later admitted him at S.C.B. Hospital. He has sustained burn injuries on his left portion of face, chest and hand.
Though the Malgodown police had registered a case in this connection, authenticity of the incident was being verified, said a senior police officer.
“No doubt the youth has been injured, but we are investigating the matter as he is unable to properly identify the place of occurrence. Similarly, though he claimed that he had been attacked on Sunday evening, how could he undergo treatment at S.C.B. on June 9,”said deputy commissioner of police Praveen Kumar today.
According to Kumar, the allegation is baseless as he has been undergoing treatment at S.C.B. since June 9 and he went missing from that day.
From the outpatient department ticket, it was clear that the youth had been admitted to S.C.B. on June 9. Moreover, his statements were also contradictory as he claimed that he had arrived in the city on Sunday by North East Express which does not passes through Cuttack.
