Bhubaneswar, Jan. 31: The wife of a former Indian Army captain today met officials of the State Human Right’s Commission, accusing Sambalpur police of inaction in arresting her husband and father-in-law, who have allegedly been torturing her.
The 43-year-old home-maker, Neha Garcha, has also charged her husband, Sukhinder Singh Garcha, of sexually exploiting the female employees of a mining firm and recording these acts on camera.
She alleged that though she had lodged a complaint at Mahila police station in Sambalpur on January 18, police were yet to arrest the accused. A science graduate from Gujarat, Neha had married Sukhinder in Jamnagar in 2002.
Neha also accused her father-in-law, G.S. Garcha, who worked with Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), of trying to rape her.
“Since our marriage in 2002, my in-laws have been torturing me as they did not accept our union. My husband left the job in 2003 and started his mining business at Barbil. But later, when we moved to Sambalpur in 2006, he used to bring girls to the guesthouse, which was on the ground floor of our house. When I confronted him, he threatened to kill me,” she said.
“At last, I got separated and left for my native place in Gujarat in 2012 with my son, who is 10-years-old. In December last, I was checking some of the CDs, which I had brought from Sambalpur and I was surprised to find clippings of my husband having physical relationship with other women,” alleged Neha.
Neha said she had given the video clippings to the police and the State Human Rights Commission officials here.
Neha also alleged that her husband used to show the clippings to his friends.
“The girls, who used to work in his office, were repeatedly molested, abused and raped by my husband, because he used to blackmail them by showing the clippings,” she said.
On the other hand, Sambalpur police said they had registered a case and started investigation.
“We are trying to ascertain the locations shown in the footage. We have also sent a team to Barbil to establish whether the videos were shot there. We will also identify the victims allegedly molested by Sukhinder,” said Sambalpur superintendent of police Prateek Mohanty.
