Colourful performances

The 43rd annual event, Vividha 2014, of DAV Public School, Unit-VIII, Bhubaneswar, was organised this week. It highlighted the cultural essence of India. The school showcased a power-packed show, which commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the chief guest followed by a captivating song by the school choir and prize distribution ceremony for the young achievers. Bijay Kumar Patnaik, member of the state human rights commission, stressed on the importance of co-curricular activities in the life of a student. An aura of festivity filled the air as the young Odissi dancers took the stage portraying the life of Lord Krishna that provided an auspicious beginning of the event. The evening witnessed a number of dance and music performances. In the series of vibrant events, the tiny tots danced on an animal song and spread the message of love for animals. It was followed by Bengali dance and Zumba. Hindi skit on women empowerment and English play were also performed that stirred the emotion of the audience. The budding musicians of the school entertained the audience by their orchestral pieces.

Students bring glory

DAV Public School, Pokhariput, in Bhubaneswar was overjoyed at its achievements in the recently held Indian National Cartographic Association (INCA) National Map Quiz, TCS IT Wiz Mega Quiz and even in National Talent Search Examinations (NTSE). It became a milestone for the school, as the first time after 20 years, two teams from one school bagged prizes in INCA National Map Quiz-2014 organised by the Survey of India. Teams from Class X consisting of Deepraj Pandey, Sankalp Hota and Zahir Ali bagged the first prize whereas the team of Sambit Mohanty, Sidharth Rath and Pruthak Swain secured the second position. They were felicitated at INCA International Congress held in Hyderabad. The school has also performed well in the recently held TCS National Quiz Finals in Mumbai. It was the only school from Odisha that vied with other 13 regional champions of the country and one team from UAE. Krishnendu Mohapatra and Dibyendu Mishra of the school became the national runners-up and were felicitated by the CEO and MD of TCS Chandrashekharan.

Golden jubilee

The Demonstration Multipurpose School celebrated its golden jubilee recently. The celebrations were held for two days on December 27 and 28. Established in 1964, under the leadership of former chief minister Biju Patnaik, DM School is a constituent of Regional Institute of Education (formally Regional College of Education). The DM School Alumni Association organised a daylong programme for alumni interaction and networking. The day began with light moments where the alumni indulged in games such as cricket, football, throwball, musical chairs and fashion parade. This was followed by a formal function in the evening in which governor S.C. Jamir was the chief guest. Special arrangements were made by the alumni association to felicitate the teachers, including those who have retired.

Self defence

Girl-students of DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur, were handed over certificates of merit after successfully completing three-week self-defence training organised by city police on the school premises. Commissioner of police, twin cities, R.P. Sharma honoured all the 40 trainees and emphasised upon the empowerment of girls for establishing a peaceful society. Sharma said there were plans to extend the programme to all the schools and colleges. The trainees demonstrated their skills in the passing out event.
