Bhubaneswar, Sept. 19: The municipal corporation has decided to put the entire office premises under closed- circuit television (CCTV) surveillance.

The decision was taken following yesterday’s clash between a group of agitated vendors from Unit IV, iTS staff and a few councillors. The security provisions on the premises will also be upgraded to counter any such violent incident in the future.

While mayor Ananta Narayan Jena hinted at an enhanced security cover on the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) premises, officials confirmed that a decision had been taken to install CCTVs to keep tabs on the visitors. Yesterday the agitating vendors went up to the office of the assistant commissioner (recovery) of the municipal corporation and tried to break the door of her chamber and also threatened to set her room on fire.

“We do not want to take any risk and once the commissioner returns from his tour, a decision will be taken regarding the places where the CCTVs will be fixed,” said additional commissioner D. Brundha.
