The intricacies of HR

Xavier School of Human Resource Management, Bhubaneswar, conducted two symposiums titled “HR in the organisation: The field of practice” and “Human processes at the workplace” on the varsity campus on June 28. M.S. Magesh, the director of human resources at Accenture stressed on the importance of social listening and how it helps employees. Bimal Rath, the founder and managing director of Think Talent Services Private Limited, also addressed the audience. Gopal Mahapatra, a professor from the Indian Institute of Management, (IIM) Indore, spoke on talent management and explained why it was a larger subset of human resource management while Sugandha Dasgupta, the HR head of General Electric (GE) gave her views on the importance of succession and planning. Arati Mohanram, associate director at Cognizant Technology Solutions spoke about various aspects of human processes at the workplace. The students interacted with the experts on various issues related to the field of human resource with great enthusiasm. 

Admission rush

The admission procedures for both Plus Two and Plus Three in all  major colleges of Rourkela such as Government Autonomous College, Municipal College, Ispat Autonomous College, S.K. Women’s College and Nilasaila College have started. The college premises are bustling with new faces who are coming to interact with department teachers. All the colleges are witnessing an unprecedented rush for admission. Students are also coming to collect their mark sheets and other documents. Most of the colleges have put their faculties on duty to make the process smooth. Various members of the anti-ragging cells also interacting with the students. 

Entrance exams

Sambalpur University is conducting entrance examinations for admission into several postgraduate courses. Hundreds of students who aspire to pursue their higher education at the varsity are appearing for the entrance tests, which began on June 20. The entrance tests for admission into the regular courses concluded on Tuesday. However, the entrance tests for admission into the self-financing courses of the varsity will conclude in a week. The postgraduate departments have been asked to complete the entire admission process by August 1. Classes will begin within a fortnight’s time after the conclusion of the entire admission process.

Book launch

The Lost World of Sarala Devi, a book edited by Sachidananda Mohanty, the vice-chancellor of the Central University of Odisha, Koraput, was launched at the Kalinga Literary Festival held in Bhubaneswar recently. A number of students from the varsity accompanied by Mohanty attended the book launching ceremony, where they got a chance to speak about literature and democracy with experts in the respective fields. The 29th book penned by the professor brings together some of Sarala Devi’s best writings, that include tales catering to children with interesting characters. The book also offers a glimpse into the lost world of the reformer with a fiery spirit. Mohanty spoke in a number of sessions related to Odia literature.

Help desks

The students of Utkal University have set up a number of information kiosks (help desks) on the campus to help students who are aspiring to take admission in the prestigious varsity. Around five kiosks have been set up by various students groups. Applicants can get information about the various departments, the number of seats in each stream and faculty members. The students are also providing vital information about the entrance examinations. The basic purpose for setting the kiosks is to connect with the freshers.

Career blog

The students of SOA University have started a blog, SOA Cafe, that acts as a career guide for upcoming students aspiring to take admission in the varsity. It would help them in making a decision about what course they should pursue, what career choices they have and what talents they require to excel in a particular career. These informative blog posts would not only shed light on the future career prospects, but it will also introduce the students to the various facets of the subject that they are interested to study.
