Bhubaneswar, July 13: The Shree Jagannath Temple management committee today decided to ask former chief administrator of the temple Suresh Mohapatra to submit the inquiry report on "Bramhaparibartan" or transfer of soul during Nabakalebar.
Nabakalebar marks the periodical renewal of the wood idols of Lord Jagannath and his siblings and is associated with many rituals. This occasion comes once in 12 to 19 years depending on lunar configurations.
But actually the shortest period is eight years and the longest is 19 years.
Chief administrator of the Puri temple P.K. Jena said: "The meeting chaired by the Gajapati Dibya Singh Deb decided that they would place a request to former chief administrator to submit the report within next three weeks."
The committee also decided to grant a 15-decimal plot of land belonging to the temple for construction of a school for the children of servitors.
"We have also decided to translate the portions of Skanda Purana highlighting the glory of Lord Jagannath and Purushottam Kshetra to Hindi. We will constitute a four-member committee headed by Tirupati Sanskrit University vice-chancellor Hare Krushna Satpathy for this purpose," he said.
Sudarshan ill
Sand artist Sudarshan Patnaik who has been on a hunger strike to demand cleaning of the Bankimuhan beach in Puri, was admitted to a hospital here on Thursday.
Patnaik has been on a hunger strike since Tuesday demanding immediate measures by the state government to ensure a pollution free beach in Puri. "I am protesting through my art against beach pollution at Bankimuhan," Patnaik had said in a Twitter post along with the images of his sand art carrying a message "Save Bankimuhan Beach Puri".
The Puri district administration today started clearing the Bankimuhan on the sea beach. "We have engaged more than 50 personnel for this purpose. We will clean it," said Puri Municipality executive officer Sanjay Mishra.
